Reverend Fr. Charles Blanchard, MSW, CPE

Father CharlesWhere there are barriers, we will indeed surmount!  This has been Father Charles’ modus operandi throughout his formative years in seminary (1979-1991), his career within the world of psychiatry (1991-99) and most recently within the pharmaceutical industry (1996-2011).  Father Charles has felt called to the priesthood ever since grade school and has found ministry, working with people and empowering people to live more productive lives most gratifying.

While in graduate studies, Father Charles met his partner, fell in love and made the painful decision to leave graduate seminary in December 1991.  At the time, it appeared entirely impossible to serve the people of God, be in relationship with Harry and retain the possibility of being ordained in the Roman Catholic Church.  The barrier appeared insurmountable until we met the Independent Catholic Church, Father Kevin, and Bishop Jerry Brohl.  Through prayer and discernment, Harry and I along with Father Kevin Kinsel journeyed forward opening Ferndale Christ the Good Shepherd  May 12, 2013.   We are truly blessed about being ordained priests within the Independent Catholic Church December 8, 2012, serving the people of God and affirming “that there are no throw away people in God’s creation.”  Indeed, no barriers exist in the face of God’s abundant love.  Please know that Fathers Kevin, Harry and Charles look forward to sharing in and ministering to God’s people; being “a Catholic witness to the inclusive love of Christ.”  This language sings to us and has found a place in our hearts.   If you would like to contact Fr. Deacon Angela Lippard

Deacon AngelaDeacon Angela has a BA in Religious Studies and a Women's Studies Certificate from the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM).  Angela has worked in social/human services since she graduated from UDM, and she has specifically worked with older adults and persons with disabilities since 2003.   Angela has received a Foundation in Aging Certificate from Boston University.  In her current employment, she assists older adults and their caregivers with finding and navigating long-term care and community based services.

Angela’s call to serve and celebrate the gifts in all God’s children has been lifelong.  She was able to follow her call with the assistance of the Community of Christ the Good Shepherd, and she was ordained into the Diaconate in August of 2014.  Currently, her outreach is focused on serving the under-served and those pushed to the fringes of our community.   She believes that God is love and all are welcome to the table.   Angela will often be found at LGBTQI events showing support, listening and sharing in peoples’ journeys.

Angela and her husband, Paul Collom, have been married since 2006.  They currently live in Ferndale and love supporting the local community.  Paul is a great ally and will often join Angela for larger outreach events.

Fr. Harry Posner, MAT

Father HarryFr. Harry has a socially progressive and affirming theology.  He first entered the seminary with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in San Antonio, Texas at age 18.  After five years with the religious community, he entered Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Michigan.  Shortly before ordination, Fr. Harry left the seminary, as he was unhappy with the increasingly conservative theology of the church.  He married his partner in 1991 and they currently live in Ferndale, Michigan.

After many years living and working outside of the church, Fr. Harry continued to feel called to the ordained ministry and was finally ordained as an independent Catholic priest on December 8, 2012.  In addition to his religious training, Fr. Harry has a bachelor degree in Social Work, a Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, and he previously studied Spanish in Santiago, Chile.   Fr. Harry currently works for the State of Michigan and is an adjunct faculty member at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.

Fr. Harry believes that all people are called and loved by God and that there is nothing that can ever separate us from God’s love.  Because of his belief that all people are welcomed at the table of the Lord, Fr. Harry helped develop the Community of Christ the Good Shepherd in Ferndale, Michigan to reach out to those who have been rejected, feel abandoned or isolated from other churches, and for those who want to be part of a church that is based on love and acceptance.  If you would like to contact Fr. Harry, you can reach him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
